SHOOTING DIGITALAdditional Resources & References
Single lens reflex (SLR) style digital cameras often use interchangeable lenses. Every time a lens is changed, there is a chance that dust can enter and contaminate the electronic sensor. Periodic cleaning of the sensor is therefore necessary. Some manufacturers suggest you send your camera to them for cleaning. If you decide to clean the sensor yourself I highly recommend that you visit the following resourses to fully appreciate what is required.

Re: Cleaning the Nikon D 100 CCD
According to Nikon, you need a pricey (approx. $80) external power supply to operate the cleaning mode of the D100. If you are desperate and don't have an external power supply, you can release the camera's mirror and expose the sensor for cleaning by putting the camera in manual mode and setting a long exposure. With the lens removed, release the shutter and carefully use a bulb blower to blow away the more obvious dust from the sensor.
