SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash Cards

Not too many years ago, digital cameras shot 0.307 Mpixel VGA resolution images and 5 MB memory cards were common. However, today's high-pixel count digital cameras require a lot more image storage space and much higher card read and write speeds.

SanDisk Corporation's new SanDisk Extreme line of high-performance CompactFlash cards are designed to meet performance levels dictated the new cameras being used by professional and "prosumer" digital photographers.

Sold exclusively through photo retail channels, the new SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash cards deliver a sustained write speed of up to 9 megabyte (MB) per second and sustained read speed of 10MB/sec. In addition, Extreme cards are designed to operate in a wide temperature range from -25 to 85 degrees Celsius, (-13 degrees to 185 degrees Fahrenheit) making them ideal for harsh shooting environments and punishing conditions such as when they are stored next to hot camera lights.

The cards come with image recovery software and are backed by a lifetime warranty.

SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash will initially ship in capacities of 256, 512MB and 1 gigabyte. Prices haven't been set yet, but they should have street prices around $99, $189 and $379 respectively.

SanDisk says "The 1GB SanDisk Extreme card is the fastest and largest capacity Type I CompactFlash card available."

They should start to ship in September.
