Mikkel Aaland has led public workshops on digital photography and the effective use of images and graphics in new media at institutions and conferences such as the University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, Drexel University, Photo Expo in New York City and CNET's builder.com.

He has held private consultations with new media companies such as Corbis, Washington Post.com and Newsweek Interactive.
